Danish Teak Furniture

Danish Teak furniture has been around since the beginning of the 19th Century. You may not realize it, but teak is short for Tectona Grandis which is a type of tree that grows in Indonesia. The Dutch settlers began growing these very tall trees in the 1800's. You will find it has been used in many styles of décor, including the Victorian era.

Researchers have found that teak was used by very early civilizations as well. They used it as a durable material for building various things that they needed. Many of these items were well preserved when researchers discovered them hundreds of years later. Many early ships where made out of Danish teak as well. This is because it would hold up so well. It was also discovered that teak would prevent rust from forming so corrosion could avoided.

Why Teak?

It began being used to make furniture from due to the fact that it can hold up well in any type of weather. So no matter what the elements bring your way you can be confident that your Danish teak furniture will stand the test of time. Danish teak furniture won't rot or warp. It also won't shrink due to the heat. This type of wood has natural oil in it that preserves it. Some individuals have had their Danish teak furniture outdoors for decades without incident. You don't even have to worry about termites being attracted to it either.

Even though Danish teak furniture is extremely durable, it isn't rough like you might imagine. Instead it is very smooth to the touch. You will find it doesn't splinter either which can result in furniture being uncomfortable or injuries. Many people love the smell their Danish teak furniture as well. It isn't overpowering but definitely something you will be aware of.

The Production of Danish Teak

You will find that Danish teak furniture has a hefty price tag associated with it. This has to do with the fact that it is so durable and long lasting. Yet there is much more to it than that. The forests in Indonesia where the teak is grown are heavily protected by their government. Even though there is a huge demand for Danish teak furniture, it is only cut down in limited quantities.

The area is still very underdeveloped as well. All of the teak that is cut down it moved with elephants rather than machinery. Since teak is so thick and heavy it won't float on the water like other wood logs do. The elephants are very well cared for and they seem to enjoy the work.

Danish Teak Furniture Today

The combination of such a wonderful wood and technology allows us to get many types of items. Teak is still used to build ships and yachts. You will find it used for patio furniture people display at home as well as businesses including hotels offer outdoors. Entire outdoor restaurants in some locations are made from Danish modern furniture as well.

Danish teak furniture continues to be very popular with people all over the world. You will find plenty of great pieces and complete sets to choose from. It is long lasting and durable so you can invest in it and know it will be around for a very long time. The look and design of it is timeless as well. That means you never have to worry about your Danish teak furniture going out of style.
