UK Water Fun Holiday

Even though the UK is notorious for being rainy, summertime is still a wonderful time for a family to spend outdoors at a water park. Going to a water park is the best remedy on a hot summer time day! Besides it being fun, they are very cheap and many offer plenty of family discounts.

A lot of these water parks are for children of all ages and they do not seem to exclude any age group. Whether your child is a baby or a toddler, there are plenty of activities and separate areas for them to enjoy. Swimming lessons are also available and will teach your child how to swim and how to handle themselves in the water and on the water rides. This is highly recommended as it is beneficial for their safety.

All of these water parks have set schedules which are built around the school year, so the prices vary depending on the season. The only downside is that these water parks are seasonal and are only open when weather permits. On the plus side though, most of the water parks have plenty of indoor and outdoor activities throughout the year to enjoy, so if the weather isn't nice there are plenty of other options.

Wet n Wild Water Park - North Shields, UK

This water park is very nicely priced at only about £10 per person for an entire day of water park fun. The interesting thing is that if you wish to just be a spectator, you get a discounted price, however that only allows a limited viewing experience. They also have evening specials that are almost half the price of daily admission which starts at 2 ½ hours before closing. You may also benefit from reduced admission with a group discount if you pre-book at least 12 people.

Splashdown Water Park - Poole, UK

Splashdown offers plenty of indoor and outdoor activities for all of your family to enjoy. During the winter time a smaller indoor water park is available, however during the summer is when this place starts to come alive. This water park also has birthday party, group, and private bookings available. The prices and minimum amount of people that have to attend vary, however the options are endless.

The Dome at Doncaster Lakeside - Doncaster, UK

One of the best year round places out of the ones mentioned is definitely The Dome! They offer the following:

  • ice skating
  • swimming lessons
  • plenty of dry sports
  • rock climbing
  • spas
  • health club
  • overnight stay
  • restaurants
  • live concerts
  • conferences

The Dome has around one million visitors per year and 52 different activities to take part in, so it is nearly impossible to take part in everything in a single day!

Quaywest Water Park - Paignton, UK

Season passes anyone? Quaywest is one of the few in the UK that offers season passes to their water park. They also have a general store, plenty of food, a nearby beach, go karts, and allow you to bring a picnic lunch. This water park appeals to all ages with their thrill rides, action and adventure rides, kiddie rides, and spacious swimming pool.

Waterworld - Stoke on trent, UK

Like the other water parks mentioned above, Waterworld has plenty of group and party booking options available. They also offer a range RLSS and lifeguard courses in addition to First Aid courses, which isn't normally seen in your average water park. Waterworld also offers partnership fundraising options with schools, charities, and youth groups.

When you're lounging around in the sun this summer, why not take a day trip to your local water park? It's great fun for the family and there are plenty of rides and other day time fun to choose from. And most of all, it won't drain your wallet!

Great selection of water parks. I always used to take the kids to Splashdown when they were younger. Now we live in Devon, Quaywest is right on our doorstep.

Splashdown waterpark and splashdown at quaywest are amazing waterparks and both deliver about the same amount of thrill rides

Waterworld in Stoke is perfect for all year fun with the country's only 'uphill' waterslide, but splashdown in dorset is fantastic when the weather is good, offering a great selection of rides and slides.

I don't know quite how you figure waterworld has the UK's only "uphill" waterslide, as there's another one not far down the road at Alton Towers' waterpark.

Shabby & unsuitable for small children. We went to Quaywest in Paignton at the weekend with a 4 yr old & 7year old as it was 7 year olds birthday & they have fully enjoyed waterparks in France.

I asked several staff members if the flumes were suitable for small children & was assured they were. No one checked they could swim, they had to go down alone & staff allowed the next person down immediatly.

You cannot take your own food & the cafe was closed (warm saturday in July).

We paid for all day expecting an exciting day but the children were restricted to a tiny pool built of very rough concrete.

This site is for teenagers who do not mind dirt, long queues, tiny changing rooms & inadequate showers (4 for whole site).

I cannot recommend this to anyone.

We've been to two on the continent - Aqualand in Arcachon [terrific, big, clean, variety, good for families with plenty of places for resting & food] and the Aqua Parc in Dijon (inside the Toisson D'Or shopping centre, much smaller, but still good fun]. I was looking for a UK equivalent. Looks like I can find something near to the Dijon experience, but not quite as good, and nothing near to the Aqualand quality.
